Gyermekvasut is a railway running in the Buda hills where children perform many of the railway jobs (talk about child labour!). It is a school where children learn all the railway occupations, except for train driver, at least when I was there the train drivers were all adults. It is well worth a half day excursion. You can take a cog train from Varosmajor (3 tram stops from Szell Kalman ter (Moszkva ter) on #59 or 61 or 10 minutes walk from the Moszkva ter metro station) or from Szechenyi-hegy (end of #59 or 61 tram line) and walk to Golfpalya utca.
My impression was the the children enjoy being there for a school term. There were only diesel trains running (no steam trains) due to fire danger. The train runs through mostly forested areas along a ridge line. There are several stops, the most popular being one where you can walk to a look out point and the other where there is a recreation park with a guided ropes course.

Szentendre is a small town north of Budapest.
Due to its historic architecture and easy rail (the green line! or rail line 10) and river access, it has become a popular destination for tourists staying in Budapest. You catch the train just off the Margaret bridge (the one with the island hanging off it) on the Buda side, although Szentendre is in Pest county.
There are some nice buildings and squares, and although the shops are all typical tourist trap fare you can still enjoy the town without great expense.
