One of the unique Hong Kong building infrastructures are the central to mid levels escalator system. This is a series of step escalators and ramp escalators connected by elevated walkways, and rising from near Jubilee street in Central up the hill side to Robinson road / Conduit road, just before the forested part of Victoria peak.

This system is several kilometers long and there are well over a dozen different sections. The photos are taken on and around the escalators.

Hong Kong zoo is at mid levels above upper Albert road. I walked there from the end of the mid levels escalators at Conduit road. There is a confusing round-about and road flyover you have to negotiate, but otherwise it is fairly easy to get to. It is probably easier to take a bus from central, but since I was up there anyway....

The zoo is small and its free so it could be worth some time to visit. I combined it with the Hong Kong bird conservatory, which is above the Victoria peak tram terminus.

The most interesting part in the zoo are the apes. But the cages are heavy wire mesh. My photo tip, have a fast 70 to 300 zoom lens so that you can work at open aperture and de-focus the wire mesh in front of you when the photo subject is far enough back in the cage. You might just detect the intervening wire mesh in a couple of my photos.

After I visited the zoo, I walked to the Albert park and then the walk-in bird conservatory.

Then I walked down to the Victoria tram terminus and caught that up to Victoria Peak.
